Private guide in Prague

 Prague Castle

Prague Castle is the official residence and office of the President of Czech Republic. Located in the Hradčany district of Prague and dating back to the ninth century, the castle has been a seat of power for kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman emperors, and presidents of Czechoslovakia.
The Guinness Book of Records lists Prague Castle as the largest ancient castle in the world. It occupies an area of almost 70,000 m2.
The Bohemian Crown Jewels are kept within a hidden room inside the castle.

Constructed in the 9th century by Prince Bořivoj, the castle transformed itself from a wooden fortress surrounded by earthen bulwarks to the towering fortress which stands today. Rulers made their own additions so there is a mixture of architectural styles. Prague castle has had four major reconstructions, but it maintains its classical facade which it took on in the 18 century during the reign of Maria Theresa.
