Private guide in Prague

Charles Bridge

Charles Bridge, one of the major tourist attractions in Prague after the Prague Castle and the Astronomical Clock, is one of the oldest stone bridge in Central Europe.
Charles Bridge provides since more than 600 years the communication between the left and right bank of the Vltava River, between the Old Town and Lesser Town in the way to the Prague Castle. The laying of the foundation stone was in 1357, by King Charles IV. According to a legend, for the construction were added eggs to the mortar, used to join the stones.
From the 17th century were placed on bridge 30 statues and sculptures mostly in baroque style.
The most important statue is that of John of Nepomuk since 1683, in memory of his overthrow from the bridge.

Today, the Charles Bridge is a place where you can find artists, musicians and artisans.
